Tap a cell, then a digit. Every row and column must read true.
How to play Cross Math
The board is a 3×3 grid of digits with an arithmetic operator between every pair, and a target at the end of each row and each column. Fill the nine cells so that every row and every column reads as a true equation, using the digits 1 to 9 exactly once between them: no digit twice, none left out. Tap a cell, then tap a digit on the pad to place it. A digit that is already somewhere on the board greys out on the pad, so the “each digit once” rule enforces itself, and the ⌫ key clears whichever cell is selected.
Check grades the board and tells you whether it is right, Hint fills one correct cell for you (three per puzzle), and New deals a fresh board. Daily loads the puzzle of the day. The seed is the UTC date, so everyone on the planet gets the same grid.
Controls
- Touch or mouse: tap a cell to select it, then tap a digit on the pad below the grid.
- The three difficulty buttons above the board switch the operator set; the counters beside them track time, mistakes, hints left and puzzles solved.
Difficulty and the daily puzzle
The three levels change the operator set and nothing else: Easy uses addition and subtraction, Medium adds multiplication, Hard brings in division. Every row and column target lands between 1 and 99 whatever you pick, so the difficulty is never in the size of the numbers. It is in the constraint, because every digit you commit somewhere is a digit no other cell can use.
Each generated board is checked to have exactly one solution before it is dealt, so the puzzle is always solvable by reasoning and never by guessing.
Questions
Is Cross Math free?
Yes, completely. There is nothing to download, nothing to install, no account and no sign-up. The page loads and the game runs in the browser tab, on desktop or phone.
How do I solve a cross math puzzle?
Work from the most constrained line first: usually a row or column whose target is very small or very large, because few digit combinations can reach it. Place those digits, then use the fact that each digit 1 to 9 is used exactly once to eliminate candidates elsewhere. Multiplication and division rows are strong starting points on Medium and Hard for the same reason.
Does everyone get the same daily puzzle?
Yes. The Daily board is generated from the UTC date, so every device that opens it on the same day gets the same grid: nothing is fetched from a server.
Does every puzzle have exactly one answer?
Yes. Generated boards are solution-counted before being dealt and only unique ones are used, so a Cross Math grid can always be reasoned out rather than guessed.
